This blog is intended for those who want to get to the point of learning their way around the kitchen. Let's bypass all that fluffy background stuff and dive straight into the wide world of food. Cooking doesn't have to be difficult, and the kitchen doesn't have to be scary! With some useful tips and the right tools, you'll be cooking up delicious meals in no time!

Each week, this blog will update with a new meal or side dish (Recipes), a blog post highlighting my latest cooking adventure or experiment (Blog), a post about a favorite kitchen tool (Tools of the Trade), or a discussion on cooking foundations (The Basics).

A born and bred Michigander, Karyn Shalda lives in metro Detroit with her wonderful husband Chris and adorable Lhasa Apso Henry. Karyn was taught kitchen basics by her mother, a fantastic cook and baker in her own right, and also learned a lot after meeting Chris, who could have been a chef in another life. She isn’t a professional cook by any stretch of the imagination; she’s just a girl who loves to share good food with others. Karyn started this blog during the COVID pandemic - because when life is crazy, good food might just make it a little easier to handle.

When she’s not cooking (or cleaning up her kitchen!) Karyn is playing the flute, working on her novel-in-progress, watching Stargate with her friends, or is soaking up the fleeting Michigan sunshine on the porch with her husband and a glass of wine.
